Western Petroleum Newfoundland Limited is Newfoundland's largest independently owned supplier ofAutomotive Fuels and Home Heating Products. The company was founded in 1990 on the West Coast of Newfoundland by now president Ivan Cassell and was soon complemented in 1997 with an East Coast operation that was founded by Luke Reynolds. With a lot of hard work and determination, Luke and Ivan have built a strong organization, which is constantly growing in the ever-changing petroleum industry.
In 2003 Western completed a deal with Irving Oil to take over their business in Port Aux Basques, Baie Verte / Springdale and Burgeo areas. In April 2007 a further deal was completed with Irving to purchase certain assets and operations in the Clarenville, Marystown, Gander, Grand Falls, Deer Lake, Corner Brook and Stephenville & surrounding areas. A further expansion occurred when Imperial Oil (ESSO) sold their remaining volumes in the West Coast area of Corner Brook, Stephenville, Deer Lake to Western Petroleum.
Western Petroleum presently employs 60 people directly and approximately 300 indirectly. Western sells and delivers furnace oil in numerous communities, structured around 10 heating centres throughout Western, Central and Eastern regions of the province. Western also operates a dealer network of Service stations in over 70 communities throughout rural Newfoundland, and is currently expanding in other locations, as opportunities are made available. Western Petroleum is the partner for Shell Canada Lubricants in Newfoundland and also is a delivery agent/partner with Pennzoil/Quaker State. Western supplies a complete range of marine and domestic lubricants.
Both principals have considerable experience in the oil business as both have various tenures with major oil companies in various managerial capacities. This expertise coupled with their appetite for seizing opportunities has guided Western Petroleum to a strong position in rural NL.
